Future Potential

In a previous project our developers created a demonstration program for recognising mortgage loan applications as patterns. Making up the pattern were details of the applicant's profile together with information about the loan they were applying for.

A more sophisticated application used advanced graphics to recognise physical patterns in stock graphs. The Automated Chart Analyst, used by the technical analyst, automates the process of recognising technical movements in stocks.

While there are numerous existing technologies that employ pattern recognition tools, including speech and voice recognition, character recognition and even weather forecasting, there is vast potential for further innovation. The world is filled with patterns and recognising them only requires that they be perceived and remembered.

Biometric identification is of increasing significance in the security industry, and in the retail sector, the ability to recognize people's faces is set to change the nature of customer relations.

Fire and malfunction detection in large industrial complexes can be detected by patterns of sensor-read measurements. Pattern recognition software is just starting to be utilized in this area, and can significantly enhance the performance of these systems.
